Olympia Fields Country Club to Host Two Major Golf Championships

OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL - Olympia Fields Country Club has been awarded two major golf tournaments in the coming years, the 88th Illinois PGA Section Championship in 2010 and the Western Amateur golf championship in 2013.

"Hosting these two tournaments is a perfect fit for us," said Mike Mazurczak. "These events showcase not only the best golf professionals in our region, but also top amateur talent, which is in line with Olympia Fields' commitment to developing and fostering the value of sportsmanship and fair play among amateur athletes."

Olympia Fields Country Club is among several elite Chicago-area clubs in rotation to host the events. Medinah Country Club and Stonewall Orchard, Grayslake, will also host the Illinois PGA Section Championship over the next five years.

Conway Farms Golf Club of Lake Forest, Skokie Country Club and North Shore Country Club, both of Glenview, Exmoor Country Club of Highland Park, Beverly Country Club of Chicago, and Rich Harvest Farms of Sugar Grove will also host the Western Amateur golf championship between 2009 and 2015.

Nadler Golf, longtime partner of the Illinois PGA, will serve as the title sponsor of the 2010 Illinois PGA Section Championship.

The Illinois Section of the PGA is the 12th largest of the 41 regional sections of the PGA of America and serves golf professionals in northern and central Illinois.

The Western Amateur, first held in 1899, has long been regarded as one of the world's most prestigious amateur golf tournaments. Champions of the event have included such golf legends as Tiger Woods, who won in 1994, and Phil Mickelson, the champion in 1991.

"We are honored to host these two prestigious tournaments," said Mike Mazurczak at Olympia Fields Country Club. "Olympia Fields has a tradition of hosting big tournaments. Our North Course, that hosted the U.S. Open in 2003, and our newly renovated South Course are widely considered two of the best golf courses in the country. We look forward to hosting these events and to seeing how the top regional players, amateurs and professionals alike, fare on our courses."
